Sports: Lineker Pleads With Leicester Defender Fofana To Reject Chelsea Switch - EPL
Leicester City legend Gary Lineker has urged Wesley Fofana to reject Chelsea’s advances this summer and believes he will have his pick of ‘monster clubs’ next year.
The 21-year-old defender has emerged as Thomas Tuchel’s top target before the transfer window closes, with the German coach eager to bolster a back-line that has lost Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.
Leicester have so far rejected two offers for Fofana and feel he is worth more than the £80million they received from Manchester United for Harry Maguire.
Chelsea are now preparing a third, improved offer for the Frenchman, but will likely need to break the transfer record for a defender in order to convince Leicester to sell.
Recent reports have suggested that Fofana is growing increasingly unsettled and wants to be allowed to move to Stamford Bridge, with his representatives already verbally agreeing personal terms.
But Lineker has pleaded with the former Saint-Etienne defender to give Leicester one more year of his career and is convinced it will aid his development and lead to even more offers next summer.
‘Fear the worst but hope he finds it within himself to give Leicester City one more season,’ wrote Lineker on Twitter as he reacted to the rumours of Fofana’s growing unrest.
‘Signed a new long contract when badly injured. Another year and all the monster clubs will want you, Wesley.’
